![]() While redistricting has made TX-15 more competitive for Republicans - he considers it a toss-up in the November election - that's not necessarily the case for TX-34, he said. Vela said the Republican party, which made gains in the Rio Grande Valley during the 2020 election, sees a TX-34 special election as a chance to take the seat away from Democrats, though he feels the seat is safe. "What I've heard is that Dan Sanchez, former county commissioner, is considering running for it," Vela said. Vela's longtime friend Vicente Gonzalez, currently representing Texas District 15 in Congress, is the Democratic candidate running for TX-34 in the November election but will not take part in any special election and instead will serve out his current term. His early departure will prompt a special election, the exact timing of which isn't set in stone and is Abbott's call to some extent. Vela, who announced a year ago that he would not seek reelection to the seat he's held since 2013, is leaving Congress before the end of his current term to take a job with the law and lobbying firm Akin Gump, headquartered in Washington D.C. "Please let me know how I can be of assistance during this transition." "It has been a profound honor to represent the people of the Rio Grande Valley of Texas for the last nine years," he wrote briefly. ![]() Greg Abbott and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. has stepped down from his Texas 34 congressional district seat after sending resignation letters today to Gov. 31-It's official: Brownsville Democrat Filemon Vela Jr. The Texas Tribune is a member-supported, nonpartisan newsroom informing and engaging Texans on state politics and policy. Vela was best known in his time for firing off a missive at then-candidate Donald Trump, telling him to “take your border wall and shove it up your ass.” He was also an early support of Biden’s campaign for president, and he urged his fellow Texans and members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus to get behind Biden’s bid for the Democratic nomination. He frequently brought colleagues for fundraisers in Texas and used the opportunity to show powerful members his district’s infrastructure needs. “Obviously, that’s something on our mind given the situation in the past election, but we’re certain there’ll be a number of good candidates on the Democratic side … and we are confident that the seat will remain Democratic in then end.”ĭuring his time in Congress, Vela has focused on agriculture and defense issues, and he is a popular member of the Democratic caucus. Borjon acknowledged that the race to replace him will likely be tougher than in the past, given Republicans’ performance in South Texas. Vela has unique name identification as both an incumbent and as a member of a prominent local political family. “Texans deserve a congressman who is going to stand up to Biden’s open border agenda, not defend it.” “Filemon Vela knows Biden’s border crisis will cost him his seat and Democrats their House majority,” said House GOP campaign arm spokesperson Torunn Sinclair. Four years later, President Joe Biden won the seat by 4 points. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton carried the district by a 22-point margin. Moreover, the district saw a dramatic swing on the presidential ballot. But national Republicans identified him as a target in 2022 after the GOP performed surprisingly well along the Texas-Mexico border in 2020, and this year’s redistricting process gives the party an opportunity to redraw the district in a more favorable manner for the party. Vela won reelection in 2020 by nearly 14 percentage points in a district that has generally been considered safe for Democrats. ![]() … Whoever replaces him has big shoes to fill.” “I will expect he will continue to do that as he closes out his term. “Filemon was extremely dedicated to the people of South Texas during the time he has served in Congress,” Borjon added. Jose Borjon, a former senior adviser to Vela and a longtime confidant, said Vela never meant to overstay his time in Congress and felt now was the time to move on. “It is now time to allow other residents of South Texas the opportunity to fulfill this wonderful privilege for which I will be forever grateful,” he added. I will continue to focus on maintaining a Democratic House and Senate Majority in my capacity as a member of Congress and Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee, while working diligently for the people I am so grateful to represent. “I will not be seeking reelection to the House of Representatives in 2022. “It has been an honor to represent the citizens of the 34th District of Texas in the United States House of Representatives for the last eight years,” he said in a text to The Texas Tribune. News of his retirement was first reported by Axios. Vela was first elected in 2012 and represents much of the South Texas Gulf Coast.

![]() Not to mention Kate’s past, which catches up with her…. Together, stuck and imprisoned in the town of Valsembor, they must find a way to continue their journey in a race against their enemies and unexpected obstacles. The Story: Kate Walker is found dying on the banks of a river by the Youkol tribe, a nomadic people accompanying their migrating snow ostriches. The world of Syberia combines gritty, real-world storytelling, and jaw-dropping fantasy elements in one of the richest game worlds ever created, and the winner of hundreds of awards over the last two decades. Syberia 3 is out now Nintendo Switch from Microids.A brand new journey in the Syberia universe from acclaimed writer, artist and director Benoit Sokal. Maybe those looking to play this should also track down and purchase the previous games and play through those first? *** 3/5 For new people though I’m not sure they will be as invested, and this is a shame. People who loved the Syberia games will obviously enjoy Syberia 3, even with the many problems that it has on show. If we weren’t comparing them, this would not be a bad game at all, and it is fair that time really has gone into making the game look good. Syberia 3 should be praised for its look, even if the upgraded 3D graphics don’t really live up to the previous games, which I felt had a more unique look. This is again a shame, as while the voice acting is not bad, it just seems slightly miscast, which is really odd. While some characters fit well with the voice actor choices, some don’t seem to fit at all, which hinders the immersion in the game at times. However, once again Syberia 3 shoots itself in the foot – this time in the character interactions and in particular in the voice acting. The story itself is also interesting and does keep you invested. There is a fairly simplistic Telltale Games style reaction system in place, and this does seem to have repercussions as to how the character’s act towards you. Most of the story will be revealed in this area of the game, and you can control Kate’s tone when she is talking to characters. However a high price point and a terrible third entry prevent a full endorsement. In the game, you’ll find that Kate has to talk to many people and this is where the game gets more interesting. Syberia offers a chance to play a series of relatively undiscovered gems from the 2000s. But the fact you HAVE to get used to it shows the issues that are there… It seems the Syberia games were much better suited to the PC’s use of mouse and keyboard and this game has suffered somewhat in “translation” from PC to consoles. This is something that you can get used to. Now in 3D, there has been an attempt to bring the game mechanics up to date and while this does work for the most part, the tank controls for Kate can be very annoying and the object selection is hit and miss. Where Syberia 3 starts making mistakes is the user interface. The Youkol also need to leave so that their ostriches can continue their migration successfully. There is plenty of story that connects to the past game, but in truth you can continue the game knowing that people are on their way to come and collect you, which means you need to get out of there. For fans of adventure games, this is fine, even if you don’t know much about the story. Now seemingly trapped in the hospital with the tribe’s guide, you must find a way to escape and get the guide out too. Instead what we are given is an introduction revealing that protagonist Kate Walker, a New York lawyer is now in a hospital after being saved by the Youkol tribe. Overall, Syberia 3 is a welcome addition to the Switchs library and another reason to fall in love with our little hand-held machines. I’ll admit I never really invested much time in the Syberia games, and some type of catch-up would have been nice. That was about thirteen years ago though, and now Syberia 3 has arrived to carry on the story, but is it worth the wait? I remember the first two Syberia games for the fairly strong story and the fact that they were good point & click adventures when there seemed to be no others around. ![]() It is advised to put an end-of-line loop for single direction train. The same is applied to Freight Platforms. You could, however, build the Railway with the free end snapped to the foundation then build a train station at the end of it. Attempting to build the station on top of the existing Railway will cause the station to be built on top of the rail but not connected to it. It is advisable to build the Train Station before building the rail. Therefore if a curved Railway cannot be built, try to rebuild it with a different build order. However, if an attempt to connect two existing Railways with a curve is made, it will show a 'Turning Radius too tight' warning, despite the radius being larger than 17 meters. If the building is started from an existing Railway and a curved Railway with a free end is being built, it is usually easier to build. The building of a Railway curve is currently glitchy. The advised build order of a Railway curve. As of Update 5, when using beams to support rails, one can achieve a maximum slope of 1:2.25. You cannot build a rail on a ramp 8m x 4m, but you can use a combination of 2m ramps and 4m ramps to achieve a steeper grade than a chain of 2m ramps. However, if the start and end points both lie on a Ramp 8m x 2m, the slope can be increased to a ratio of 1:2.7. If the start and endpoints both lie on a flat surface such as a foundation, the maximum slope is 28 meters high over a distance of 94.5 meters, which is a ratio of 1:3.375. ![]() The maximum slope is more complicated, as it depends partially on the angle of the start and endpoints of the segment, due to the way curves will be "smoothed" from one section to the next. This means a 180-degree turn can be completed within an area of exactly five by two and a half foundation blocks and still allow snapping to the edges of that area (see image). The minimum turning radius for a perfect 90-degree turn on a foundation is 17 meters as measured by the center of the Railway at the end of the turn (where the cursor will aim when building). Note that buildings can still snap at the extreme edges of the turn. The minimum length is 12 meters, which is the length of one and a half foundations however, trying to build from the start of one foundation to the middle of another will strangely sometimes fail as if the Railway is somehow actually 11.999 meters long. The building length of one segment of the Railway is limited to 100 meters, or the length of 12.5 foundations in a flat, straight line, which costs eight Steel Pipes and eight Steel Beams. Building a Railway costs one Steel Pipe and one Steel Beam for the first 18 meters, and one Steel Pipe and one Steel Beam for every 12 subsequent meters, making it slightly cheaper to build many small sections if short on materials. Railways can be laid directly on the ground or snapped to existing foundations, ramps, Train Stations, Freight Platforms, and Empty Platforms. ![]() See Electric_Locomotive#Train_throughput for a calculation on Freight Car/Station throughput. Which is higher than the throughput of 512 Mk.5 Conveyors.Īlthough the train can move this amount of items between stations, the limited ports at the station mean a much smaller transfer rate can be realized in end-to-end transfer using the train. 2.9 Building a perfectly straight RailwayĪssuming an infinitely long cargo train runs on a flat, horizontal railway at a constant speed, the theoretical throughput is:įor items that stack to 100, such as ores, at the maximum speed of 120 km/h, this is equivalent to:. ![]() Macros are commonly used in C-style programming to define compile-time constant values. ![]() std::vector and other Standard Library containers. Some macros are predefined on each kind of machine (see section 3.7.3 System-specific Predefined Macros). A conditional in the C preprocessor resembles in some ways an ifstatement in C, but it is important to understand the difference between them. Macro definitions can vary between compilations for several reasons. arithmetic expressions, or whether a name is defined as a macro, or both simultaneously using the special definedoperator. ![]() In the Macro name list, click Test, and then click Run. I'm trying to educate myself a little more in C++. To put it simply, the preprocessor will only expand a nested macro on the left side (in another macros arguments) if neither the stringification operator nor the concatenation operator are applied to it on the right side (in the macro definition). Whoopee, not working on that socket library for the moment. This amount of time is critical for preschool-age children to engage in lengthy play ideas. In most programs that operate eight hours or more, this means at least 60 minutes (Cryer, Harms, & Riley, 20012) should be dedicated to free-choice activities. Research tells us children who are more engaged in activities with their peers early on do better in school when they are older.Ī substantial portion of the day should be dedicated to free-choice time in the classroom because this time is especially important for preschoolers. In free-choice time, preschoolers were also more engaged with their peers (Vitiello et al., 2012). This can likely be explained by the fact that children are more likely to remain interested and to keep working at an activity when they chose the activity in the first place, rather than the teacher choosing the activity for them. (2012) found that children are more engaged with activities during free-choice time than they are during teacher-structured activities. Children learn best during free-choice time when teachers actively scaffold their learning (Chien et al., 2010).Īccording to research that has looked at preschool children’s behavior in different settings and activities throughout the school day, children are more involved in activities that allow them independence and the opportunity to make choices. This can involve monitoring the number of children at each interest area to ensure certain areas are not overwhelmed and making yourself available to children to support their activities. The teacher’s role during free-choice time is to make sure each child has the opportunity to pursue their interests and to make the most of these learning opportunities. Typically, this involves children choosing to play at one or more interest areas in the classroom (see Lesson One for more about interest areas). Free-choice time is time during the school day in which children make their own choices about what activities they engage in. An easy and effective way to provide these opportunities in the preschool classroom is to give children free-choice time. This means that preschool-age children are likely to have unique learning experiences when involved in various types of activities. Nevertheless, I leave the reader to make her/his own conclusions. I can only speculate, but I think it might’ve been that the other two books I wrote about didn’t exactly make for very ‘acceptable’ conversation – but ‘acceptable’ by whose standards, I’m not too sure. the piece wasn’t published might be saying something too, because I believe that silences, or the things that aren’t talked about, are equally, if not, more important than the things that are discussed in public. ![]() I think we all expected the piece to appear because we never thought the contrary would happen. It is also a let-down for me and other people because the publishers of Two Baby Hands very kindly agreed to let me purchase a copy of the book in advance of the launch because I really wanted to write about it in the Bookends piece.I put quite a bit of thought and effort into it, and I think the editor of Sunday Lifestyle could’ve been courteous enough to at least say, “Thank you for your contributions but we’re sorry we cannot publish your piece.” That is only fair. The non-publication of the piece is a let-down for me because I had to take time off to write the piece.IMHO, it provides a very good primer/introduction to Singapore society and literature in general too.īut before you read on, I think I must say a few things here about why I am not very happy that my contribution wasn’t published. To date, my Bookends contribution hasn’t been published yet and I’ve got a feeling in my gut that it won’t ever be published. ![]() It needs to be potted or conformally coated so it'd be protected against shorts and corrosion. I'd need to do a bunch of things to it before it'd be ready to share. ![]() Thanks for the encouragement! I really only did it because I thought it would help me diagnose my completely dismantled system faster but I'm sure others would find it useful, too. I've already replaced the top up limit switch, which was pretty well destroyed, and I need to somehow bend one of the deck cylinder limit switches' mounting bracket back into shape.Īnyway, I hope you find this interesting. Next step will be to disassemble and (I hope) rebuild the pump. I also learned that the solenoid valves all seem to work and the pump spins in both directions but it leaks. Using it I've found that the deck lock and panel retract motors are both working, though the panel motor has a little jump in it as it cycles that makes me think its gearbox has a bad tooth (I haven't put the panel back on yet so it's running unloaded). A yellow LED next to the button lights to indicate that the "coil" is energized and a green one by each pole of the relay lights to show how much current is being drawn through that pole (brighter=more). Pressing a button turns on the associated relay. Here's what it looks like next to the original relays: I sized it to mount on the plate where the relays were. It connects without needing to cut the harness plus it has no mechanical contacts, just really big transistors. I know from what I've read here how difficult it can be to test and track down electrical problems with the top so I made my own solid state relay bank circuit board (day job, meet hobby). Both banks of relays were pretty corroded. I'm trying to replace only what I have to (like the top ram with the bent shaft). It's all there but some of it's pretty rotted or bent. It runs pretty well but when I got it the convertible top bits had all been disassembled by a previous owner. I have a '66 Q-code convertible that looks as though it sat for many years.
